Yakima River

Cle Elum & Canyon Floats

Some of the cliffs on the Yakima River. The Yakima is born in the high peaks of Snoqualmie Pass. It flows east through the famous wine region of the Yakima Valley until emptying into the Columbia River near Tri-Cities. We offer two distinct river float choices depending on the season. Spring through summer we'll float the upper section from east Cle Elum to near Ellensburg. This gentle Class II section of the river flows through beautiful Ponderosa Pine forests, towing Basalt spires and past many salmon spawning on gravel bars. The canyon section is available in September and October and features fall colors as well as fabulous wildlife viewing and birdwatching. Bighorn Sheep abound and 21 different species of raptors can be seen as we float through the monolithic volcanic cliffs on this Class I float.
